We do, in fact, have pictures of things other than Lincoln, but they were already on Josh’s computer and off the memory card. And, his photo editing software doesn’t let him do pictures from his new camera, so there’s a minor delay until he gets the new software. Lame.
So, Lincoln is now approaching 20 minutes of screaming in the crib during nap time. We checked on him at 5, calmed him down…. then at 10, calmed him down again….and now I’m waiting 15 before I go back again. And he’s still screaming. This is our new pattern. He sleeps so easily at 8.30 and 11.30 and then by 2.30 is EXHAUSTED and fussy and totally discontent, so we put him down for a nap and he screams. And since I’m not going to get anything else done while he screams, I thought I’d update the blog 🙂
Last weekend, Kimberly and David came for a really short 3 day they’re here, they’re gone visit. And it was awesome! At first we thought they were only going to get like, a day and a half here. Then we thought maybe Kimberly would be coming early, then we found out we got to spend three whole days with both of them! So, we packed it out.
Sunday, they landed bright and early at 8am so they could join us for church. Afterwards, since we had chicken (Kimberly is a vegetarian) and potato (Josh is allergic) soup, we took them to one of our favorite restaurants for lunch and chatted with our waiter friend til it was time for Lincoln to eat… came home, fed him, chatted for a bit then went out to have dessert as dinner and introduce them to the awesomeness that is Burma Kadayif. If you have never been to this country, you’ll have no idea what that is and if I explain it you’ll think we’re crazy, so let’s just say it was awesome.
Monday, we took them up the coast a little ways to Jason Church, a little church on a jut of land (obviously not the geographically correct term) from the 1800s. It’s sooooo pretty. And it was soooooooooooo cold. Oh my. And windy. But we love getting out of the city and the coastline is beautiful once you get a few kilometers out, so it was a win-win. Then we came back home to feed Lincoln (pattern?) and went to another of our favorite restaurants and chatted with another of our waiter friends and introduced them to the BEST lentil soup ever!
Then came Tuesday.
We interrupt this blog post for a brief intermission while I go calm down the baby.
Reset timer. 20 minutes.
(Mom, if you’re reading this… I think “What goes around comes around” is already being lived out. At 5 months)
Tuesday requires a brief backstory. David is the provost at UNC School for the Arts and they have a project called Art\Islam and Kimberly works with the project. They had meeting in the BIG city for a few days, which is why they were in our neck of the woods. Anyway, there is a ballet dancer at the church and we introduced them on Sunday and he invited all of us to come see practice and meet the director on Tuesday. So, we did. And it was so cool. We got to watch the dancers for a bit and then David and Kimberly got to chit chat with the director for a while as I tried to entertain a squirmy, tired baby (who did fall asleep during the conversation, but not now… he’s still screaming). So, writing about it doesn’t sound as cool as it was. But it was.
And then Josh and I went to the ballet on Thursday. I don’t think he had a clue what to expect…. but he liked it and wants to go back and I am totally ok with that 🙂 It was the first time we left Lincoln with anyone else, so I was nervous. But we dropped him off at Erin’s and he slept the whole time. Something he is definitely not doing today. He really is a great baby. He just hates this afternoon nap, for some reason.
Ok. That was our week in a (very big) nutshell. Now it’s almost Christmas and I have yet another batch of cookies to make. And Josh is on baby duty….. I can’t take the crying.
This crazy boy is getting soooo big! I can’t take it! I don’t have a ton of time to write today, so we’ll keep it short.
It’s getting increasingly difficult to take pictures with Sherlock the Dog. He pretty much just gets pulled and chewed on.
By the end of the photo shoot, the poor dogs ear and tail were sopping wet. Oh well.
So, at 5 months…
- likes: fingers, being outside, jumper, anyone giving him attention, trying to chew on his fingers while eating, the new ladybug toy from Mere
- dislikes: changing clothes, nap time
- teeth: none, but he’s pulling his ears and chewing on everything in sight… maybe soon
- hair: none 🙂
- sleep habits: he’s sleeping better – 7-10, 10-4 then 4-7ish. He even slept from 10 to 7 one night this week! I didn’t know what to do with myself! Naps are a different story. Maybe I just want him to be a long napper and he’s not…. he usually takes a good nap in the morning for an hour or hour and a half, then two 45 minute naps around 11:30 and 2:30 (ish).
- clothing size: he’s still mostly in 3-6, but some of them are getting small, so we’re moving into some 6-9 month things. make it stop!
He’s still got a few spots on his face/neck from eczema and all the drool (which is less now, but still there) and I feel so bad for him! I just want it to clear up already! He’s rolling over like a crazy baby and sometimes he’ll do the mini push up thing. I think we’ve got a few weeks til the crawling starts 🙂
We didn’t have to go to the doctor this month (no more shots til 6 months), so I measured him at home…. not quite as accurate, but I think he’s around 7.1 kg and 68 cm (15lbs 11oz and 26.5 in).
I know, a few weeks ago I was complaining about it being too hot. And now I’m writing about how cold it is. But, I’m not complaining! I looove it. I do wish our windows actually closed so our salon would stay a bit warmer, but I love blankets and socks 🙂 And Christmas decorations and yummy candles. And the fact that Gilmore Girls comes on every night at 7.30 in the local language. Except that it just ended and I picked up the remote to skip the credits and watch the next episode. Ha.
Speaking of language, I bought a new book at the suggestion of my language helper and it’s literary language…. so, pretty heavy and a bit high for me, but it’s pretty good. It helps that it’s all short stories by one of my favorite authors here (she writes in English too). At least I’m learning new vocabulary!
Last week, we got 2 packages!! Not that I remembered to take a picture of either of them before we took them apart. One was from my sister’s fam, so it had Christmas presents and then a few other things. My favorite so far is the ergo-ish baby carrier that a friend made her when she had her middle daughter. It’s been used quite a bit already and we’ve only had it for a week. It’s lighter than the ergo and, since the ergo lives in the car so I have it when we’re out, this one is in the house….. and since Lincoln has been more fussy than normal (teething, maybe? we don’t know), I definitely wore him around the house today to clean:
I definitely think he approves. I wore him to the mall a few days ago and he fell asleep on the way home. He likes it. He does not, however, like to be removed from it while sleeping. He didn’t wake up until I laid him in the crib and moved my hands…. and then he was up for good. Guess we’ve reached that stage. Good to know.
The other box was a surprise, which was awesome 🙂 Providence sent a birthday kit to have a purposeful Christmas party, complete with cookies, icing, sprinkles, and decorations. Sooo exciting! We’re hoping to have the youth (aka University students) over next weekend, so we’ll get to use the goodies.
Now, for more Advent boxes:
This was one of those compressed washcloth things and it looked like this when it opened:
So, you put this in water and it is like a perpetual snow globe for a day or so, and then you can just stir it and it floats again. I think we’ll use it for our Christmas party.
Super glue. Hilarious. The sad thing is, there are about 10 projects around the house we can use it on. They have it here, but it doesn’t seem to be the same.
Ok. Does he look like me? Mostly, I think he’s a mini version of Josh… but sometimes I can see that he is, in fact, half me.
Here’s a side by side:
Yes, I stuck my tongue out allll the time when I was a baby. I’m glad he’s not picked up on that yet.
And one last picture. It’s really, really blurry…… but he’s too cute not to post it.
Ok, first of all, I have to give a shout out to Janice Brewington for the box and mini boxes…. apparently my mom is re-gifting what she was given last year. And my task is to pass it on (or use it again 🙂 hehe).
Day 2 was a cute gift for Lincoln. We opened it not too long before bed time, so we didn’t get a picture of him with it because we went for a walk and then put him to bed afterwards. But, they’ll be worn again:
Today, after Lincoln was woken up twice by the SUPER loud construction out back twice yesterday, we decided to put him in the pack-n-play in the bathroom (the only room in the house without windows). He went down surprisingly easy this morning for his nap and slept for almost and hour and a half! Glory. So, he was in such a good mood after he woke up we thought we’d let him help with today’s box.
As you can see…. all he did was try to eat it. But it did allow for some really cute picture opportunities. If this is a glimpse of what Christmas will be like, I’m super excited. We’ll just have to time it right so he’ll be happy and awake.
Opening… don’t you just love his stylish new bibs! They’re kinda big but they’re awesome because they more than cover his front and they have plastic backs, which is essential with the amount of drool this kid produces. Seriously, it’s absurd. Moving on.
Necklace and bracelet…. and the necklace lights up! Hilarious. But I’ll be wearing this to every Christmas function we have. Don’t you worry.
After the happy mood with the box this morning, Lincoln’s mood deteriorated a bit. We think he had a low fever, so we gave him some tylenol and went for a walk since this is the last day in a while that was supposed to be not rainy. Then, for nap number 2, he was NOT ok in the pack-n-play, so we put him back in his room and the construction woke him up after like, 30 or 40 minutes. Oh well, at least they can’t work in the rain!
This was day 3 of temperatures above 75…. it’s crazy. But, it is really nice to be able to take long walks with Lincoln and be comfy 🙂
I think Lincoln only woke up once last night, but I think I’m so sleep deprived I can’t remember what was last night and what was two days ago. He did ok with naps today, too. I had to hold him for the second half of his afternoon nap so he’d stay asleep, but how many more times am I going to be able to do that. So, it’s ok if it means he’ll catch up and sleep better in the long run.
So, today is December 1 and my awesome mom brought us this super cute advent box when she came this summer (did I mention she’s awesome). Every day we get to open a cute little box with a gift inside – sometimes for Lincoln, sometimes for Josh, sometimes for me. And then the bottom of each little box has a letter on it, so the boxes become decoration. Did I mention my mom is awesome?
